Event Notification: Annual Race/Parade!

Sunday, March 15

The Detroit Police are managing the Trumbull and Bagley intersection and will let vehicles cross safely when racers are not present. Runners and walkers are expected to be heaviest between 11 and noon when crossing will be the most restrictive. Plan accordingly!

Beginning at 6:00AM, the roads immediately around Roosevelt Park will be closed. This includes Michigan Ave (17th to 14th), 14th St (Michigan to Dalzelle), Dalzelle (14th to 15th), and Vernor (17th to Rosa Parks). At 9:30AM, police will close the roads on the 5K course. Michigan (14th to Cass), 1st St (Bagley to Michigan), Bagley (3rd to 1st), Brooklyn (Michigan to Bagley), Bagley, (Brooklyn to Rosa Parks) and Rosa Parks (Abbott to Michigan).  6th St will also be closed from Michigan to Howard, where the parade will be staging. Police will reopen each road after the last race participants go through. Michigan (17th to 6th) and 14th St (Michigan to Dalzelle) will remain closed until after the parade, approximately 3:30PM.

MI Central/Newlab/Roosevelt Park

We discussed a long list with you at our January quarterly meeting and have zeroed in on a few priorities based on feedback from our council member representative, TJ.

1. Dedicated personnel with oversight of the event including noise, parking, ordinance, and trash who is reachable and attends block club meetings to discuss upcoming events.

2. Two-way communication to residents that includes more than the logistics (21-days’ notice, street closures, parking plan, amplified sound, expected attendance), it creates space for feedback.  

Our next step is to open for your feedback before going to the city’s events team. As always, that is welcome at info@trainstationneighborsblockclub.org.

Resident-only Parking (committee and next steps)

The Residential Parking Permit Committee is drafting a proposed permit map that will be distributed in the next week to our neighborhood prior to obtaining signatures on the petitions. Please review the map and if you have questions, utilize the info@trainstationneighborsblockclub.org email to reach out to our representative, Tanya Caruana. The parking committee will be submitting a group of consolidated petitions for all of Corktown (Train Station, Central & East) together on March 30th to the City. Tanya will walk around in mid-March with the final petitions for signature by those impacted. Note, only owners (not renters) can sign the petitions. If you are a renter and interested in the residential permit, please contact your landlord to inform them of the process so they can sign the petition.
