Hi Neighbors!

Thank you to all those who joined us for the inaugural pre-fireworks neighborhood mixer!

As you know, this newsletter is your connection to ways that you can engage with your neighbors and enjoy the spaces and businesses that surround us. Mark your calendar for the quarterly meeting on July 16th at 6PM at the Maltese American Benevolent Society and read on to see who will attend to share important info about what’s happening in our community.

Inaugural Summer Block Club Party!

One of the goals of the Block Club is to make the neighborhood more connected and we did just that recently! Look out for more fun social experiences to better acquaint us all :)

July quarterly Block Club Meeting

On Wednesday, July 16 from 6-7PM, neighbors will convene to learn about what’s happening in the neighborhood. We’ll hear from Chase Cantrell, Executive Director of Building Community Value, about the parcel of land at 14th and Dalzelle and Tarun Kajeepeta, Co-Founder and Principal of Piquette Partners, with an update on the development at the corner of 14th and Bagley.

These meetings are your opportunity to connect into the awesome stuff that’s happening around you and gives you a direct line to those who are shaping the future of our built environment.

Secondary Street Sign for Greg Mudge

Greg Mudge, owner of Mudgies Deli and Wine Shop, passed away in 2021.  If you would like to be a part of preserving Greg’s legacy with a Secondary Street Sign (SSS), head over to Batch Brewing (1400 Porter St, Detroit, MI, 48216) on Thursday, July 17, 2025, from 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm.

Come with your creative ideas to persuade other Council Members to vote for the application for Greg Mudge!

Youth Opportunities at MI Central

Spring Term Demo Day (Google Code Next at Michigan Central

Date Range: May 1, 2025 - August 9, 2025  

Description: Student showcase of projects created by young engineers, with presentations and an art sculpture unveiling. Open to family, friends, and Google/Ford volunteers.

Summer STEAM Experience (Lab Drawer at Michigan Central) 

Date: June 30, 2025

Description: This summer, youth lead the charge in science, technology, and creative expression. Our hands-on STEAM camps fuse chemistry, engineering, coding, beatmaking, and fashion tech with culture and real-world challenges like clean energy and climate change. Campers build, design, experiment, and innovate — all while shaping the future on their own terms. Students who are rising 4th - 8th graders (minimum age: 10) are invited to participate. 

Women in Robotics 

Date: July 19, 2025 (11:00 AM - 2:30 PM ET)

Description: A panel and robot building activity for Brownies and Juniors interested in robotics. Panelists share career paths followed by hands-on robot building guided by Women in Robotics volunteers.

Physics at iFLY (Seniors and Ambassadors) - Novi 

Date: August 6, 2025 (4:30 PM - 7:45 PM ET)

Description: Similar immersive STEM event as above but for grades 4-12 and adults, including flight time and STEM badge earning.

Operation Comet - Port Huron  

Date: August 9, 2025 (10:00 AM - 12:00 PM ET)

Description: Simulated space mission involving an urgent comet mission requiring teamwork, hands-on labs, simulated emergencies, and problem solving for upper-level Daisies, Brownies, and Juniors.

Lunar Quest (Cadettes, Seniors, Ambassadors) - Port Huron 

Date: August 9, 2025 (12:00 PM - 2:00 PM ET)

Description: Simulated mission repost about a lunar rover that lost power. Participants complete labs and emergency simulations, playing unique roles in the mission to recover data.
